Fontana: The Right City at the Right Time
Your destination for economic and quality of life opportunities. San Bernardino county’s second largest city continues to steadily grow and prosper…. That is why it’s the right time to start or expand a business in Fontana, or to find that ideal home. Fontana’s economy continues to improve with steady job and sales tax growth. Industrial, commercial and residential construction remains strong. The city continues to improve services and bolster opportunity by opening more access points from the surrounding freeways to the core of Fontana.
Fontana schools continue to inspire and hone young minds into responsible citizens and future leaders…. And ongoing parks and recreation projects continue to improve the quality of life for residents, workers and visitors alike. At the heart of the city’s robust economy is job growth. Like the rest of the inland empire, Fontana is enjoying record growth in good paying jobs…even outpacing the rest of california. And the 2017 forecast calls for continued sales tax growth, particularly from Fontana’s robust logistics industry and auto dealers. Fontana is ideally positioned for retail and commercial expansion or relocation. The 2017 forecast calls for that healthy level of growth to continue. Fontana also continues to see residential growth at a sustainable pace. In 2017, the city expects an eight- to ten-percent increase in the construction of single family homes mostly on smaller and long dormant land tracts. Multi-family units, meanwhile, should remain steady or slightly increase as developers continue to fill-in vacant lots. Now, the city is exploring the construction of another interchange at beech avenue and the I-10 freeway in south Fontana. These interchanges, combined with other ongoing development projects, such as ventana at duncan canyon, offer retail and residential opportunities to serve Fontana’s diverse and growing population of residents and commuter workers. Adding to a bright economic picture and more opportunity is the return of local control at Ontario international airport. The airport is expected to bring more travelers to the “I-E”… and Fontana is perfectly poised to fill their needs. City leaders and staff are actively working for the development of more business-class hotels and national name-brand restaurants along Fontana’s border near the airport. Fontana’s infrastructure is also keeping pace with the growth…. The public works department is planning, building or completing multiple flood control and water reclamation projects…. City engineers are working to add more traffic lights and pedestrian crossings to keep the bustling city safely moving along.

Fontana’s students — spread across four school districts — are also making their own inroads. Each district boasts improvements in academic achievements, and the city now has its first magnet school… the Delores Huerta international academy just opened its doors. It offers an international and duel language immersion program to provide a world class education to kindergarten through fifth grade students. That’s what’s happening now in our schools. The city, however, is also looking ahead…Fontana wants to keep our best and brightest students at home by working to create higher paying tech jobs and other employment opportunities which require an advanced education. But Fontana also makes “fun” a priority by investing in recreational amenities. The new year will bring the start of construction for the long awaited 6.5-million dollar miller amphitheater in Miller park near downtown Fontana. When it’s all done in June, 2018 — the deluxe amphitheater stage and surrounding grounds will create an all important feeling of community every city needs to thrive. These are just some of the long list of things Fontana city hall is pursuing to make life better for everyone. In the 20 years since Fontana started giving state of the city addresses, the city has witnessed the largest period of across the board growth and expansion since it was founded by Azariel Miller in 1913. No doubt, he’d be impressed by how his 17-thousand acres of citrus fields, poultry and cattle farms have become the city it is today… while Fontana has made incredible strides forward, this is a never-ending marathon toward progress. But at no time in the past has this city been so well positioned — to excel in so many ways. This is Fontana: the right city at the right time.
